NGSO week will be from 9/13/15 - 9/19/15.  We are looking for volunteer in a variety of programs.  Meet great people, help new students, get a t-shirt...  For information, please send an email to: graduatelifeoffice@stanford.edu.

Interested in helping new students get set up for the new school year? Knowledgeable in campus resources? Then come work for the Graduate Student Information Center (GSIC)! 3. CalTrain Go Pass Discounted

Starting Aug. 25, the CalTrain 2015 Go Pass, offered via the Go Pass Pilot Program, is available at a discounted rate of $100 for grad students who live off campus. Good through the end of December, the Go Pass can take you all over the Bay Area for free. 

 

4. Stanford Graduate Summer Institute (SGSI)

Several SGSI courses have a few spots for you to expand your interdisciplinary learning and network. Check out Ethics & Research, Digital Publishing at a Crossroads, and Jumpstart Your Academic Job Search (for students entering the faculty job market this year). The Energy@Stanford & SLAC course welcomes all new grad students. Course runs the week of Sept. 8; applications will close soon.

Working on a job letter or conference presentation?  Have a big interview coming up?  Stuck on a dissertation chapter?  Get FREE writing and speaking support at the Hume Center!

The Hume Center closes to tutoring from August 27 through September 22. It reopens on Wednesday, September 23. Students will be able to schedule appointments from September 16.

 

Dissertation Boot Camp

Boot Camp offers graduate students a focused two-week opportunity to make serious progress on your dissertation or other writing project.

 

Writing and Oral Communication Workshops

Workshops provide graduate students from all disciplines with general communication strategies, as well as support for specific writing and speaking tasks, like research statements, journal articles, multimedia presentations, and more.

The GSC will be hosting two events during the New Grad Student Orientation. Here are the details!

GSC Welcome Back Dinner

Kick off your Stanford journey with a free pizza dinner hosted by your Graduate Student Council! Come out to the lawn behind the GCC to meet fellow students and be welcomed by your GSC representatives!

GSC Info Session and The PhD Movie Screening

Come join the GSC for a free dinner, to hear about how we serve Stanford grad students, to learn about opportunities for advocacy, involvement, and financial support for student groups on campus, and to ask questions about Stanford grad life. The Info Session will be immediately followed by a screening of the hilarious The PhD Movie!

Graduate Student Council Welcome Back Party

The Graduate Student Council (GSC) of Stanford University is excited to welcome all you amazing grads (back) to campus for a great year! We look forward to seeing you at our annual Welcome Back Party featuring an “Under the Sea” theme. Throw on your best summer outfit, dance the night away to great tunes, and enjoy ice cold drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) with your friends!

Graduate Student Programming Board Announcements

1. Grad Trivia Night

Trivia Grad Night is back for the summer. Seven rounds of questions, including the music round, with prizes for the winner of each round. Come early to get a drink on us! There will be a food special as well, usually $5 nachos and $5 burgers. Proof of age required for alcohol.
