2. DARE (Diversifying Academia, Recruiting Excellence) Doctoral Fellowship

1. Grad Student Position Available on the ASSU Elections Commission!

Technical Specialist needed for the ASSU Elections Commission! The position entails management of the election websites and input on the ASSU elections process. Requires knowledge of working on website backends. Compensation is $2000 and we’ll need your help until the ASSU elections in April. Grad Trivia Night is monthly! Seven rounds of questions, including a music round, with prizes for the winner of each round. Team registration starts at 7:30pm, and questions start promptly at 8pm. Come early to get a drink on us! There were will a food special as well, usually $5 nachos and $5 burgers. Proof of age is required for alcohol.

 

2. Machine Learning Interdepartmental Lunch

Interested in machine learning? Want to meet people from all across campus who share your interest? If so, this lunch is for you! This is not a conference or a seminar - just students with a common interest getting to know each other and eating free food :). Our purpose is to bring together a large diversity of perspectives on the topic, so people from all departments are encouraged to sign up.

The lunch will take place at the Russo Cafe on campus and it will be funded by the GSPB. Participation is capped at 20 and will be determined randomly but so as to bring together students from as many different departments as possible.

Join your fellow graduate students to watch the next Quentin Tarantino movie- The Hateful Eight - sponsored by GSPB at Century Redwood City 20, Redwood City. We will eat dinner at Five Guys Burgers and Fries before the movie. Please fill up the survey by Friday, January 15 to enter the lottery. Drivers will be given preference. We will carpool from GCC. Please pitch in for gas to the drivers. We will aim for an evening show starting between 6:30-8:30 pm and the time will be announced once movie schedules are available.

 

4. People Making Sounds: Treehouse Dinner + Conceptual Music Concert

People Making Sounds is a project co-organized by Weston Olencki & Charlie Sdraulig. We present experimental sound art, conceptual music, & iterations of expanded sonic practice. Performances feature, but are not limited to, instruments, objects, gestures, tapes, & videos. The concert will be on February 6th at CCRMA Stage (The Knoll, 660 Lomita Court, Stanford). Admission is free and before we will be going to the Treehouse at Tresidder Memorial Union for dinner.

Only graduate students are eligible to sign up. Those selected by the lottery will meet up outside Treehouse at 6:15PM to sign-in and eat before for the 7:30PM event.

Please sign up by Thursday, February 4th.

All may join for the event, however, if over 20 people sign-up then 20 will be randomly picked for the $15 subsidized food/drinks at Treehouse. *Only winners will be notified and given subsidy at the pre-concert dinner* If you are selected, you will receive an email and BE REQUIRED TO RSVP. If you do not RSVP, you will be replaced by others on the waitlist.
