2. Food Pantry Pop Up
In partnership with Second Harvest of Silicon Valley, Stanford R&DE is piloting a monthly food distribution event for Stanford students and their affiliates who self-identify as food insecure. Each eligible household will receive perishable and non-perishable food items at no cost.

Spring Quarter Dates:

Monday, August 10

The success and sustainability of this program depends on the participation of students. Please sign up to volunteer at the event - three time slots are available per day! Find out more about the program and how you can sign up at the Food Pantry Pop-Up website.

3. Census@stanford
Everyone counts. The 2020 Census will help decide how billions of dollars will help our community and shape congressional districts. Everyone, regardless of immigration or citizenship status, age, or housing status, must be counted in the Census on April 1, 2020 (Census Day) at the location at which they live and/or spend most of their time. Beginning mid-March, graduate students residing both on-campus and off-campus will receive official Census Bureau mail with detailed information on how to respond to the 2020 Census. Take ten minutes to complete the Census and shape the future of your community for the next ten years. Spread the word and learn more at bit.ly/censusstanford.

4. Virtual Wellness and Recreation

As part of our continued commitment to your health and wellbeing, your colleagues at Stanford Recreation & Wellness have been working hard to put together a landing page with lots of FREE options to help get you through these times. We call it Virtual Recreation & Wellness. There you will find links to many resources, including our Movement Motivation Contest, where you can inspire or be inspired by your friends and colleagues. We also feature live Zoom classes, live Zoom meditation, a Strava group, and more. In the coming weeks that we continue to work from home, please be sure to visit often as we will be continuing to add more classes and resources to help you take care of YOU! In case you missed it, Stacey F. Bent, Vice Provost for Graduate Education and Postdoctoral Affairs, and Susie Brubaker-Cole, Vice Provost for Student Affairs, updated the graduate student community with the University’s plans for the 2020-21 academic year, which was emailed to students on Wed., Jul. 23.

2. Stanford Graduate Summer Institute (SGSI) 2020 - Now Virtual!
Discover SGSI: immersive, interdisciplinary, accelerated week-long courses offered for all Stanford grad students, at no cost! Explore new subjects, experiment with new ideas, and expand your community. Course subjects include: Diversity and Inclusion in STEMM, Inclusive and Effective Teaching, and more! Round 4 application deadline: Sun., Aug. 9.

3. BEAM’s PhD Pathways Panels, Aug. 4, Aug. 12
Explore PhD career paths in various industries through panel-style conversations with professionals in those sectors. The panelists work in different roles and for different employers, and represent a variety of disciplines of origin. In each session, you will have the opportunity to ask questions and have more in depth conversations with individual panelists. Tues., Aug. 4: Educational Technology; Wed., Aug. 12: Freelance and Entrepreneurship. 12-1:30 PM PDT via Zoom.

4. BioSci Careers' How Informational Interviews Can Help You, Aug. 6
Are you currently exploring your career options or applying for jobs? Informational interviews are one of the most powerful tools you can use! Learn the steps for conducting an informational interview, and how to compose a list of highly effective questions to ask. Thurs., Aug. 6, 11 AM-12:15 PM PDT via Zoom.

5. Stanford Libraries’ Gear Up for Research Communication, Aug. 12-13
Learn how to amplify your impact as a researcher. Learn and share effective methods and unique ideas for communication the meaning and significance of research. This event is hosted in concert with the Research Impact Challenge, a series of once-a-day quick and easy activities to help you improve your scholarly presence.

6. OPA’s Be Your Own Advocate: Foundations for Collaborative Negotiation, Aug. 13
Explore the competitive and collaborative tensions present in most negotiations or challenging conversations, and develop tools for maximizing outcomes while respecting and maintaining healthy relationships. Thurs., Aug. 13, 9 AM-12 PM PDT via Zoom.

7. ICME’s Data Science Summer Workshops, Aug. 17-22
Attend full-day workshops covering a wide range of data science topics, from machine learning to natural language processing to programming Python. Complete four or more workshops, and receive an ICME Summer Workshops certificate of completion. Happening from Mon., Aug. 17-Sat., Aug. 22, 9 AM-4:45 PM via Zoom.

8. CTL’s TEACH Stanford Online Teaching Symposium, Aug. 17-28
Are you (re)designing an online or physically-distant-in-person course this academic year? This two-week symposium provides free online workshops delivered by campus experts, as well as small group and one-on-one support to help you head into this unprecedented year with inspiration and confidence. 9. CTL’s Stanford Teaching Commons
Check out the Stanford Teaching Commons site, which is designed for all members of the Stanford community who are interested in learning, education,and pedagogy.  Explore teaching guides, find articles, connect to resources, and more.

10. CTL’s Mentors-in-Teaching Program
Apply to be a Mentors-in-Teaching (MinT) Fellow for 2020-21. Receive $800 to initiate a project that supports inclusive and equitable teaching and learning in your department. Projects can be proposed by individuals or teams of graduate students and all projects must have a faculty/lecturer sponsor. Application deadline: Wed., Jul. 29, by 5 PM PDT.

11. STVP’s Entrepreneurship Thought Leaders
Learn what it takes to become a disruptor from various industry influencers. Upcoming speakers include Amy Chang, Executive Vice President of Cisco and Michael Tubbs, Mayor of the City of Stockton. Ask questions in the livestream chat box, and your questions could be answered live. Wednesdays, 4:30-5:20 PM PDT via YouTube.

Dissertation Boot Camp
Dissertation Boot Camp offers grad students a focused, two-week opportunity to make serious progress on their dissertation or other writing project. During Summer Quarter, all camps will be held online. Please visit the Hume website for the most up-to-date boot camp schedule.

Writing and Oral Communication Workshops
Workshop materials are available on the Hume Center Graduate and Postdocs Workshop Canvas site. These workshops provide grad students from all disciplines with general strategies as well as support for specific writing and speaking tasks, such as research statements, journal articles, multimedia presentations, and more. Writer’s Block and the Creative Process in Science
