1. Grad Student Speed Friending

 

Meet 20 grad students in 20 minutes!

Join fellow grad students from all over campus at the Frances C. Arrillaga Alumni Center for a fun, casual evening just for grad students. You can come for the entire event, or just drop by for a few minutes.

There are THREE Speed-Friending sessions to choose from. Please only sign up for ONE session. You must check-in 15 minutes prior to the session you registered for to be admitted.

  • Session 1: 5:45 pm
  • Session 2: 6:30 pm
  • Session 3: 7:15 pm

Dinner is served from 5:00 - 7:30 pm or until it's gone. Enjoy hamburgers, chicken burgers, veggie burgers, and all the fixings. Food is first come, first served.

You must register to attend the event.

Space is limited so RSVP now to secure your spot.

This event is open to current graduate students; SUID required. Sorry, no guests.

2. Grad 201 Workshops: Time Management

It takes time to make time. Learn time management techniques that will increase your efficiency, productivity, and free time! Come to this workshop run by Adina Glickman, Director of Student Learning Strategy Programs. For more information, email graduatelifeoffice@stanford.edu.

 

3. Serve on Judicial Panels for Honor Code and Fundamental Standard Cases

A great opportunity to learn about the student judicial process, gain leadership experience, and work with faculty and students from across the university!

The Office of Community Standards is looking for more students to serve on the judicial panels that hear student Honor Code and Fundamental Standard cases. Panelists will be trained by the OCS, and are expected to be fair and reasonable in evaluating the facts of a case. As a panelist, you will uphold the shared standards and values of our community and represent the student voice and experience on panels. Student panelists are nominated by the ASSU’s NomCom, so if you are interested, please apply at nomcom.stanford.edu by April 15.  We encourage students from diverse backgrounds and all departments to apply!

1. Stanford Graduate Summer Institute (SGSI)

SGSI offers free, immersive, and interdisciplinary courses for new and current graduate students on behavior change, course design, design thinking, energy, leadership, public policy negotiation, sustainable agriculture, the academic job search, and more. Courses run the week of Sept. 12 before Autumn quarter begins. Priority application deadline: Sun., May 8.

 

2. Diversity Innovation Funds

Pilot program that supports Stanford graduate students and postdoctoral scholars in the development of a project that will advance diversity within those populations. Proposals accepted on a rolling basis.

 

3. Designing the Professional – Spring 2016 Workshops

2. DAC Diversity Month is Coming

The GSC’s Diversity Advocacy Committee (DAC) is organizing a series of events for Diversity Month, which will be in May. These will be events geared to highlight and discuss diversity in the grad student community. We’re also looking for individuals, small teams, or student groups to organize some events, and limited funding is available! 3. 2nd Annual Sprung Music Festival

The 2nd annual Sprung Music Festival is happening this Saturday, April 2nd from 5-10pm on Levin Field (aka FloMo Field)! The event kicks off with the annual Battle of the Bands competition to decide which student band opens at this year's Frost Music and Arts Festival, and will finish up with headlining artist THE WHITE PANDA.

Live music, food trucks, light show, free tickets to Frost.. you won't want to miss this!

 

4. Frost Music Festival

The music festival that brought you Flume, AlunaGeorge, MGMT, Kaytranada, and Dispatch is back this May 14th at Frost Amphitheater better than ever.

You won't want to miss this year's lineup, with headliner FETTY WAP and supporting act SAGE THE GEMINI.

1. The Scotsman In You

To commemorate Tartan National Day (Scottish Day of National Independence), we will have a special event on 4/6/16 @ 8PM @ BBQ Pit by Lake Luginita to help you find the Scotsman in You! We will have appetizers in the Scottish style (salmon and herring on dark bread) and watch a video about how to drink scotch properly (this video is hilarious) and some scotch for tasting! We will also try to have special Scottish themed drinks, including tea and Irn Bru, a very delicious Scottish soft drink. To cap it off, we will listen to bagpipe music (on low volume!) Come join us to find the Scotsman in You on 4/6/16! Remember to wear your tartan colours (red and green squared motif, but also other colours, always in squared motifs http://house-of-tartan.scotland.net/house/reverse.asp) Lastly, this event will be part of a new series of exploring cultures from around the world! Look out for these monthly events!

 

2. Jazz@Ray's

Come on down to Ray's to catch the Malcolm Campbell Quintet play, supported by some of the best jazz talent Stanford has to offer. Brought to you by the GSPB, this event is FREE for all students so do drop by for what is sure to be a scintillating night of live music!

Malcolm Campbell graduated from the Harvard/ New England Conservatory dual degree program and has played with jazz luminaries such as Roy Hargrove, Don Byron and Billy Heart. In his career so far, he has performed at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall, The Montreux Jazz Festival and the Panama Jazz Festival and has also played a part in masterclasses for Yoyo Ma and Herbie Hancock. Malcolm released the album For The Meantime with his trio in 2014. Have a listen via the link below for a taste of what's on offer.

4. Champions League Quarter Finals

Join us to watch the 2nd leg of the Champions League Quarter Finals.

We'll definitely be watching Benfica vs Bayern Munich and we'll give our best to find a location with a second screen so we can also show Atlético - Barcelona.

5. Machine Learning and Finance

How can Machine Learning be applied to finance? What is the FinTech industry all about? Are the markets efficient? What is High Frequency Trading and what are the black boxes investors are putting their money in?

If you are interested in how Machine Learning can and is being used in the finance world, then come join us for this event! 6. TGIF Bodyweight Group Workout

TIME TO WORK OUT

Let's gather for an outdoor group workout on a late Friday afternoon to get a clear conscience and don't mind the extra calories of the night ahead!

We are a group of students who meet regularly and follow a high intensity bodyweight program. We support each other to become the strongest version of ourselves and become fitter than ever before.

The workouts are for everyone: from beginners to pro athletes.

No matter where you start at: It will be challenging! - But worth it!

Afterwards there will be time to get to know the person behind the athlete and enjoy some great treats sponsored by the GSPB.

We will have some healthy foods, snacks, and beverages:

Everything you need to fuel up your energy after an awesome training session.

You may want to bring your own towel and water.

Water splashing, FREE delicious Burmese food and Burmese cultural activities! Come join the biggest holiday and new year celebration of Burma right here at Stanford.

9. GSPB Stanford University Giants Game

Come watch the Giants take on the Diamondbacks and get a limited edition Stanford-Giants baseball cap! It's Stanford University night at AT&T Park. Although we will not provide transportation, a group of us will ride the CalTrain up together (or you can meet us up there). There will be a $6 copay (includes a ticket to the game that is also valid for a Stanford-Giants baseball cap). We have 20 spaces available (winners will be selected by lottery and notified).
