Academic Policies and Standards
The Fundamental Standard is the underlying philosophy which governs student conduct. It states: “Students at Stanford are expected to show both within and without the university such respect for order, morality, personal honor and the rights of others as is demanded of good citizens. Failure to do this will be sufficient cause for grounds for removal from the University.” To learn more visit:

Noise and Disturbances
The Policy on Campus Disruptions affirms the rights of free expression and peaceable assembly and also outlines regulations designed to maintain an atmosphere conducive to scholarly pursuits. For specific details visit:
Due to both the academic and residential nature of the Stanford campus there are specific guidelines and local ordinances for using amplified sound. Drugs, Alcohol, and Smoking
Stanford is committed to maintaining a drug-free workplace and campus. Students, faculty and staff are governed by the Controlled Substances and Alcohol Policy (PDF).
Stanford’s Smoke-Free Environment Policy stipulates that the smoking of tobacco products is not permitted in enclosed buildings and facilities, nor is it allowed during indoor or outdoor events on campus. You can see the policy at:
